Naming Ceremonies 



Gathering together to celebrate and share in the happiness and the joy of the important events in our lives helps to strengthen the bonds that tie us together and also helps us to acknowledge how important family and friends are in our lives.  
 
One of the most important ceremonies in ancient times was the formal naming of a child. In Roman times, a child was not considered a member of the family until the Naming Ceremony was conducted.

Today, a Naming Ceremony is a wonderful way to celebrate and welcome a new member, to your family, friends and wider community. The ceremony is usually held at some point in the first year of a child's life, however you can choose to hold your ceremony at any time you wish. 

The ceremony is non-religious and there are no legal aspects to the ceremony. During the ceremony parents usually make promises, grandparents can be acknowledged and can make promises and many parents also involve friends or family members who they have asked to be Life Guardians to their child.

It is really lovely to have a poem or reading and some music, and if you wish, you can also include a special ritual for example a candle lighting ceremony, a wish book, a time capsule, a treasure box or balloon release. 

My fee is $300 and includes all meetings, phone calls, emails, performing the ceremony and travel up to a total of 50 km. There is a small fee for distances beyond this. I will listen carefully to your ideas and work closely with you to help you design your ceremony. I will also provide you with a sample ceremony and ideas about poems, readings, music and symbols. 

To secure your ceremony date and time you will need to pay a $100 non-refundable booking/administration service fee. The balance of your fee, $200, will be due 7 days prior to your ceremony.
 
My services include: 
  • an initial no cost, obligation-free meeting to discuss your ideas and how we will work together to write your ceremony, who will be involved (yourselves, grandparents and godparents or life guardians) and any special symbols or rituals you would like. 
  • If you decide to proceed, I will prepare an invoice and ask you to pay a non-refundable booking service fee, the balance of your account is then due 7 days prior to your ceremony date. 
  • Unlimited meetings, phone calls, emails are then included to ensure that we finalise your ceremony prior to the ceremony date. 
  • I will provide a PA system for the ceremony and will also provide an additional bluetooth speaker, if required, which you can use to play your music for the ceremony (please note that I am not able to operate the device for playing your music as I am performing your ceremony).
